Sometimes change is hard.
It can be painful to start something new.
It can be painful to let something go.
But the cost of not changing causes the most pain of all.
Think of a time when you didn't make the change you knew you should have. What was the pain of not making that change? What was it about the decision that made it difficult?
How do we make a change in a way that is pain free?
DECIDE what you want to change in your life. It may be something simple like cutting out coffee, it may be something much more challenging like moving house.
If you own the decision that will make it easier from the start.
Just ask the question right now - you will have an answer - you actually know the answer you just haven't asked the question.
- What are 3 things I need to improve on?
- How will I feel if I am in the same position one month from now?
- Why do I need to make this change? What's in it for me?
If YOU decide then you will make it happen. There is no point having someone make a decision for you.
What does the end product look like to you? How will you feel when you achieve this?
Steven Covey says "Start with the end in mind" it is one of his 7 habits of highly effective people.
When do you want to achieve this goal? When are you going to start? What are you willing to give up to make it happen? What are you willing to take on?
What are the milestones I need to work towards to know I am on the right track? Make a list of the boxes you need to tick. Put them on a timeline
Engage support - Who will you need to have on your team to get there? Having experts, friends and colleagues provide help, accountability and encouragement will help you stay on track. But remember, it's up to YOU. It's your goal and no one else wants it as bad as you do.
Set yourself up for success and reward yourself along the way. Make use of the rewards to help you progress to the next stage or something that will enhance your journey
Tick the boxes as you go, the momentum will assist in keeping you motivated and enable you to quickly ascertain what is working and modify your plan. It's ok to fail just do it quickly, learn and adapt.
Persevere, acknowledge the lessons along the way and keep moving forward. Personal development will also enhance your learning. Keep a log of your learning and review it regularly, hopefully the lessons you learnt last month aren't being repeated
Enjoy the change and continually move forward and CHAlleNGE yourself.*Disclaimer: Individual results vary based on agreed goals. Click here for details.
