My Journey to a fitter & healthier version of me…..
It's a familiar story. Once my partner and I started a family, the time I had for myself shrunk…but my waistline continued to grow. Slowly at first, I kept an eye on my weight as much as I could but over the years I gained, steadily. I got to the point where I could no longer bear to weigh myself and I had lost touch with the healthy side of me. I was reluctant to have my photo taken, a head shot…maybe. I felt uncomfortable and unhappy in myself.
One day I walked approximately 100 metres to my office and then began my assent up the flight of stairs. The stairs are steep but only 20 to climb. I got halfway and had to stop to catch my breath. I was so unfit and unhealthy. I decided I had to do something about it.
The following day, as I walked back from the bread shop, I spotted the woman in red. She went through a door. I stopped and took a brochure. I went home and told my partner I was going to make an appointment to speak to someone about personal training. I did not realise how much my life was about to change.
I made the call to Vision Personal Training and made an appointment to go in the following week to speak to someone. The day finally arrived. I was really nervous, but I made my way to the studio. I got to the front door, slowly opened it and as I took a deep breath, started my journey up the stairs. I had no idea what I was walking into. I made it to the top of the stairs and met Leigh-Ann. She and I then discussed my goals. I wanted to lose weight and get fit. I was overwhelmed by how much I needed to lose, I thought it would take me years, but Leigh-Ann seemed unphased by it. She had complete faith that I would be able to lose the weight. I had tried several times on my own but I felt reassured that she seemed so confident.
So, there I was, I began the Vision program. I did personal training and entered my food in my food diary each day. Leigh-Ann helped me choose healthy food options and I just stuck to it. At first, I found it surprisingly simple. I mean, I was eating more food and more regularly than I used to, choosing healthier options and I was losing weight every week. I lost my first 15 kilos in about 3 months and I have now lost a total of about 35 kilos (in about 16 months). I have never been a runner and now I enter in running events and can run 10km. I have personal fitness goals and love the challenge of doing better at each event. I also love collecting the Bling. I ride bikes with my kids and can keep up with them…most of the time.
During this process, I have not only lost weight, I have become the fittest I have been in my life. I also enjoy the friendly community and have made some wonderful new friends, all of whom have encouraged and supported me throughout this journey. I feel happier within myself and found my sense of humour again. Leigh-Ann and Vision have helped me get my life back.
