Stress is the number one biological factor that ages us, alongside sleep and a poor diet. The world we live in today is inundated with stress and a lack of physical activity. So what are the barriers which prevent people from engaging in physical activity and exercise, and why?

Many people express that their stress levels have a large impact on their physical health. Interestingly, many agree that maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle is of high importance. If this is the case, then why aren't MORE Australians adopting good eating, sleeping and exercise behaviours?

A recent Stress and Wellbeing survey concluded that the main barriers for a healthy lifestyle are; unexpected life events (63%), loss of motivation (61%), and lack of time (59%). At Vision Personal Training Drummoyne, we work towards overcoming these barriers by focusing on the "Four E's" Emotions, Education, Eating and Exercise. At Vision Personal Training, we give you the Education and tools you need in order to achieve a balanced Eating and Exercise pattern now and for the rest of your life. Above all though, focusing on "Emotions" which have a significant impact on the following barriers; Motivation, lack of time and unexpected life events.

Motivation determines whether an individual will or will not adhere to an exercise regime. The individual must believe in changing their behaviour to achieve any goal. At Vision Drummoyne we address motivation by keeping you accountable to your daily, weekly and monthly SMART goals. Keeping your goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound will keep the motivation alive!

Lack of Time is a huge barrier for many Australians when it comes to eating/sleeping/exercising right. Time and Priorities are often confused. A Lack of time means you cannot squeeze in 30 minutes in the day for exercise. This is rarely true. Society needs to actively choose to 'prioritize' exercise, healthy food choices and more sleep. For example, waking up 30 minutes earlier, or having dinner 30 minutes later. The key is to 'make time', there are plenty that do and they feel much better for it! Health should be the number 1 priority. Often, it is only when our health is taken away from us that we realise how important it is. Fortunately Vision Personal Training programs are designed for busy lifestyles, so that you can achieve better results in a shorter period of time.

Unexpected life events are the hardest barrier to overcome. These events can creep up without warning and we don't know how we will respond, adapt and cope. Exercise can become the greatest tool to the healing process. Exercise as Medicine. Exercise can help reduce anxiety and help manage symptoms of depression. Members at Vision Drummoyne feel that their Personal Trainer becomes a friend and important part of their support network, so by focusing on "emotions" we can adjust your training dependent on what you are feeling on the day.

The hardest part is getting started and there is no 'right time' other than NOW. Dare to Dream. Set a goal. Be kept accountable. Getting started will be the best decision you could make all year!
