Starting at Vision Personal Training Engadine in August 2015 was the beginning of the end. The end of literally a life of being overweight. I was the token "fat child" throughout my childhood, teenage years and even into my adult life.
I am used to weight loss programs and have done a few with success, but nothing to the extent of this last year.
It was seeing photos of myself at our Engagement Party in 2009, not being able to fully enjoy and experience our European holiday that made me realise I had to start to change, change for the better.
I lost 8 kilos by the next October for our Wedding. But that was put on hold when I fell pregnant only 2 months later. I was lucky in that I wasn't one of the pregnant women that stacked on the weight and was back to my pre-baby weight within weeks, so I couldn't use my pregnancy as an excuse!
I thought being on maternity leave I would be that active mum out walking and getting fit with bubs in tow…what a shock to the system when that didn't happen. For the first 2 years of my son's life I was paralysed with fear and later I was diagnosed with Post Natal Anxiety and OCD.
By the time 2014 came around I was in a better frame of mind to start the weight loss journey once more, but was hit another blow when I had to have Rotator Cuff surgery on my shoulder.
In a twist of fate and a push from my husband, I joined Vision Personal Training Engadine in August 2015 when they offered a promo to family members of existing clients. It was too good of opportunity to pass up, it was now or never.
I went in to my first meeting with only one thing on my mind, to tell the truth of where I was, why I had gotten to that point and that I needed help. Not only did I feel I had to be honest with the Trainers but I finally had to be (brutally) honest with myself.
It certainly hasn't been smooth sailing since this part of my journey started, more like a roller coaster but I have come further than I could ever have imagined possible. I am stronger, fitter, healthier and in a better mental state than I have been in an entire lifetime.
I have lost 10kgs and have gone from a size 14-16 to a size 8-10.
