Food Myth explained - Milk 

 

Many of the people I have worked with at the start of a coaching program have milk as a staple part of their diet. I see it in food diaries as a drink, on breakfast cereals (which are another issue themselves) and mixed in protein powders for a muscle building drink. This is not a hate milk article but simply making a few points as to the impact it has on us as humans. I want to help educate you so you can be more aware and then make decisions for yourself based on better understanding.

 

Many know or call milk nature's Perfect Food. Milk is nature's perfect food only if  you are a calf.

 

For many people, dairy causes inflammation, allergies, congestion, postnasal drip, sinus problems, eczema, asthma, acne and irritable bowel. It also may increase the risk of bone fractures and osteoporosis, increase the risk of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and causes certain kinds of cancers.

 

It also spikes insulin, causing us to grow belly fat and creates issues with insulin resistance see previous post on insulin resistance and diabetes.

 

No matter what messages you hear from the dairy lobby - there is nothing perfect about milk for humans. 

I highly recommend switching from cows milk to almond milk unsweetened to use as a drink or a mixer with your protein powders if you do not like water as a mixer.

 

I promise you will feel leaner in days of stopping and your blood sugar management will improve too as a result. Just be mindful of any other liquid sugar drinks you may be consuming.
