Staying on track with social events*

Friday, 31 July 2020, By Jordie Rowe

How can you ensure that you are staying compliant even if you have social events on? Many people believe that having a social life means the end of their progress towards their goals. But that's not the case. The reality of it is, is that social events such as birthdays, weddings or work functions are unavoidable. In these situations you can choose to either over indulge or chose to enjoy yourself without ruining your progress. Which will you choose?

Below are some strategies to help you stay on track with upcoming social events.

Plan Ahead.

Going to a social event without a plan is going to ultimately set you up for failure. Make sure you have your plan of attack already written down. Whether that be, looking at the menu before dinner and working the food into your day, or roughly tracking your food to the best of your ability with what you see. For example you may generally have chicken, sweet potato and broccoli for dinner, so understand your general portion sizes and look out for similar foods.

Ensure Adequate Protein Intake.

There's nothing worse than rocking up to a social event starved and on an empty stomach. Ensure your meals for the day leading up to the event are filled with plenty of protein so you feel satiated and full. This will avoid any loss of control that would come with hunger.

Get back on track straight away.

Like mentioned before, social events are a lot of the time unavoidable. So with that understood make the decision to get back on track the very next day. Make sure you eat the foods that you would normally, make sure you drink plenty of water and make sure you keep active and keep your body moving. Be consistent with your daily routine.

How important are your goals to you? Enough to be aware of how social events could be ruining your progress? It doesn't have to be that way.
