Lost 25.6kg in 6 months*



2018 has been a year of massive changes for me. I am a 43-year-old professional male who has had a desk job since I was 22. I work big hours, 10-11hr days with weekend work on top of that. Doing those sorts of hours, I created some pretty bad eating and drinking habits. Breakfast was always skipped and some lunches. I would snack throughout the day, be it biscuits, lollies, copious amounts of caffeine and soft drink. I would get an enormous take away on the way home or cook up a very large meal to get me through to the next dinner. I'm talking 1kg steaks, stir-fries or pasta dishes. Also, to relax I would have a few beers after work and perhaps a binge on a Friday or Saturday night. 

I played cricket from 8 years of age to 40, golf, tennis very active through my 20's. I was always the sporty type but 3 years ago gave all sport away as my fitness levels were at a level where I was frustrated and was not capable anymore of playing at the level I wanted too. I had a million excuses why I couldn't do it anymore rather than doing something about it. Things went south after that, blood pressure issues, my weight spiralled out of control and my mental health was not great. I also lost most of my confidence after being single a few years and felt pretty ashamed.

Over those 3 years, I was taking approx. 10 sick days a year prior to those 3 years I averaged 2 days. My boss had mentioned a few times when I was going to do something about it and had given me a few ideas that I hadn't considered until our company decided to try squash and pay for group lessons, I played 3 times each time hurting my back and taking weeks to be pain free and moving freely again.

My boss had just started to go to Vision PT North Strathfield and she mentioned things were very different there when it comes to the environment and the training and referred me. I met with Luis in March very apprehensively after rescheduling 3 times. After doing the bio-scan and seeing that my bio age was 73 and my weight had ballooned to 161.5kg I was in a state of shock for a week or two. After a few phone calls from Luis and Samina, I finally walked through the door in late April. Walking through that door was one of the hardest things I have ever done there was so much apprehension, I was thinking what if I fail (myself and loved ones)? What if I can't do it?

After 2 sessions I was hooked. Finding out how bad my endurance and strength was, was a real eye-opener for me as I couldn't last more than a few minutes without losing my breath. I threw up outside as soon as I walked out after the first session, however, I had new found determination and the sporty competitive nature within myself wanted me to prove myself wrong. I learnt about nutrition and that really is 75% of the battle. I started to meal prep, count macros and was quite strict with them for the first 4 months. I had not been on a bike since my teen years and found myself coming in most days and riding 10km's over 30 mins. With the gym being on my route home every day I started to come in more and more to the point where I was coming in 6-8 sessions per week. While I didn't join the group classes I was there usually during the evening classes and also started to make friends.

Over time my strength improved to where I am now doing double to triple what I was doing compared to when I started. Samina actually got me on the treadmill too which was hilarious as when I first started I am pretty sure the first thing I told her was I don't run.

The past month I have hit a bit of a plateau with the weight loss but that is due to muscle gain also. The secret to my success though has been consistency. We have down periods where we might get ill or have holidays but don't let that deter you, get back on the horse quickly and you won't regret it.

While I am only 6 months into my journey and only halfway to my weight loss goal I feel no way will this slow down. My life has improved so much for the better. My confidence with my looks and weight are much better. I actually have some muscle definition and have taken a liking to look at myself in the mirror. My energy levels through the day are so much better who would have thought to eat 6 meals instead of one or two per day you would lose weight?? My motivation continues, yes, I have had some very good results and weigh-ins but it really does come down to consistency with food and training.

I have been in a relationship for a couple of months now and have found the woman of my dreams. My weight is down to 135kg and my bio-age is 47.

Finally, I owe my life to these guys. Samina I will be forever in your debt and you have a friend for life. I am looking forward to continuing my journey with Yoshi and hopefully checking in again in another 6 months' time to be in an even better place.
