Personal profile: Busy wife and mum of 2, I work 3 days a week. My weight has fluctuated over the years, and last year it started to impact on my health.
For a long time, I trained mostly 2-3 times per week with a Personal Trainer. However, despite my training, I was not getting anywhere with my weight. Deep down, I was searching for a more effective way to achieve results (I have tried calorie restrictive diets, only to eat the weight back on again). I literally looked up into the heavens and asked for an answer! Having always cooked from scratch, I didn't want to order pre-made calorie controlled food packs that many like to do these days. Then, in came a message from Keenan, General Manager at Vision Personal Training Templestowe, who informed me that I had won a free trial period through a social media campaign!! The universe answered my call for help.
As soon as I started my trial, keeping to the macros and training program, I started losing weight. I couldn't believe it! To top it off, I had Keenan and his fantastic Vision team there supporting me along the way, educating and encouraging me. I learned that nutrition was key and training didn't have to be exhausting, just consistent. By week 3, I knew I had to continue beyond the trial and I haven't looked back. I did not allow myself to deviate from achieving my goal, and this was made easier with Keenan's support and by taking it one week at a time. I really appreciated our discussions that followed my never-ending questions about a topic I never really discussed with anyone - my weight. The weekly weigh-ins and especially the Food Diary and online resources have been key tools in staying accountable and motivated through education and inspiration. My old habits were replaced with new ones. I gave up my late nights for early morning PT sessions. I learned it was ok to eat enough not to be hungry rather than to eat to be full.
From the first day, I felt welcomed and part of the Vision family. Vision Personal Training has a great culture of encouragement and inclusion. I love that each trainer actively listens and offers knowledge and experience in my areas of concern. I was encouraged to try boxing class which I now love. It is great that there is no need to book the classes in, just show up. Increasing my PT sessions per week helped increase my commitment to training. Trainers and other members encouraged me to join in on Saturday's Bottom Line and Walk Club group training sessions. More recently, I tried Run Club - Me! I never ran other than to the bus stop! I would never have believed it but I recently ran my first ever Fun Run - 7km! As the weight came off, my knees stopped hurting when climbing stairs. I feel fitter and stronger now than I ever have. The change in the balance between protein, carbohydrate and fat, and the change in food choices has cleared my head, increased my energy and improved my circulation. I feel lighter on my feet and more confident in myself. My husband and family are thrilled for me. It is great to be able to buy clothes off the rack that fit my dream size. My relationship with food has changed. Other parts of my life have also benefited from this positive change in mindset.
My next goal is to become strong enough to do chin ups and to run a 10 km Fun Run. The support and the community spirit for each member, continues beyond the first big goal and this is the magic of Vision Personal Training - to help you stay healthy and happy.
