Post-Covid Mindset

Coronavirus - We are all pretty sick of hearing about it. Unfortunately, however, it's not going away for a long time.
We are living through something that won't happen again for an extremely long time (or ever). This pandemic has changed just about everything in the whole world, so it's no surprise that we all feel a range of different emotions about it all.
While there are many things to write about, to talk about, to action, the main thing I want to address in this article is MINDSET.

The fear: "A mix of mis-calibrated emotion and limited knowledge"

Our mindset, thoughts, habits are what shapes us to be who we are. We are human beings - we need routine. So, when things get flipped upside down all of a sudden - what can (and usually) happens? Our mindset is affected negatively.
What happens when we are in a negative mindset? All of the consequences that come along with it. Bad eating, lack of exercise, laziness, procrastination, anxiety etc.

Among all of this, it has been quite difficult to gather ourselves and our thoughts. We have been thrown an overwhelmingly large ball of information, facts, myths, conspiracy theories, law changes, the list goes on!

Not to mention for a massive percentage of our population, jobs have been affected. This is very clear how it can change someone's mindset, and it's understandable that something like that in which you cannot control, will force you to make changes in your life.

What to focus on?

Yes - there are lots of negative changes for all of us. Each and every one of us has our own situation that has been changed due to this all.
There are aspects that we cannot change.
We cannot change if our boss decides to let us go, we cannot change if the government puts a stop to socialising, puts a stop to going out to enjoy ourselves, or if our business comes to a halt\closes. These are all things that are out of our control, and there are many more.

I believe that like all things, we should focus on what we can control.
So, in the middle of a pandemic, with so many stresses and uncertainty's, what do you think we should all be doing? What do you think would help\hinder us at this time?
If we know already that our mental health is affected by these things that we cannot control, we should be working on what we can control!

For each of us, these tips have different meanings. Take a minute and figure out what it means to you.

Formulate a routine!

WE ALL NEED ROUTINE! This is one of the things we can control. We might not be able to control certain duties that used to be in our routine not being there anymore, however we can control our routine itself!
There are many other things that we can put into our routines to help us stay sane, productive and driven - although as any trainer would want us to do, we should absolutely be formulating an exercise routine. This is especially easier now that the studio is back open, but even if you don't come into the studio, you can still exercise!
I'm sure we don't need to go over the reasons to exercise and how it helps our mental\physical health.

Enough said, get moving!

Eat healthy!

Again, we need routine. Eating is in our routine; we need to eat to live. So, whether we are affected financially or not, we have a choice with food.
What is stopping you from making the right food choices? Is it stress? Is it your circle of influence?
No you cannot control your stress, or your circle of influences opinions (spouse, children, and friends). You know what we can control though? Our choices!
We might be stressed about lots of things, but do you remember what your trainer has said to you about eating healthy, and how it will influence your mindset?
So as hard as this all is, we do have a choice to make better choices with our eating - and in my opinion, I want to be clear in the mind and body when waves of uncertainty are heading my way.

What a time we are living through! Like I mentioned before, there are many other influences and stresses that we are going through, but I urge you to make sure that you are eating healthy and moving. These are the things we can control!

Stay healthy!
