Weight trainng- Enhance your life and where to start*

As I was once a weight training beginner too, I understanding weights can feel very intimidating.

Here's some of my top tips to start your journey off the right way:

1. Seek assistance from a PT first, if you don't how to do something ASK! There's no such thing as failing if you get something wrong, only learning. This is important for technique purposes to prevent injury or poor form. Don't do what I did and guess how to do a barbell squat.

2. Fit exercises to you, not you to the exercise. If it doesn't feel right, it often isn't right, some exercises are not good for people with injuries/conditions they may have.

3. Prioritise exercise that are functional and use multiple and large muscle groups first e.g. squats, deadlift, bench press, overhead pressing, pull-ups. Get great at these to give you more bang for your buck in terms of building more muscle and burning more calories.

4. Focus on the small milestones, you might not see huge PBs each week focus on the improvements in the way it feels, small increments of weight going up.

5. View weight training as building a new skill, not just focusing on intensity. This is so important for long lasting results. Your bodies energy levels will shift throughout the week and you may not be always able to kill your session. Focus on improving quality of the exercise in your program.

6. Follow a program, stay in your lane and try not to compare yourself to others who have been doing it for years. This is your journey to enjoy!
